April’s Sunday Service [TSG Images]

A few friends and I host an acoustic band night at Verve bar called The Sunday Service where we round up and serve what we think are is Leeds’s musical cream.  It’s only once a month and therefore not too stressful always hunting acts down and it’s a great opportunity to photograph the acts we bring down.  Last month we had the excellent Ric Neale, Ellen & The Escapades and Albert & The Otters play, and big things may come of each and every one of them. They’re all great – check their myspaces! Here are a few of my...

Food Photography

I did this food shot for a Chef Special feature for the Leeds Guide Magazine while I was shooting their features recently.  It reminded me what a challenge it is to make food look appetising.  This shot was taken in a catering unit in Leeds just by the door to the carpark to let a little daylight in.  A reflector gave it dazzle and the depth of field it’s appeal.  I never fake or paint anything when I shoot food, and it’salways a challenge, especially if it’s going cold, but it keeps me on my toes!

Angie & Chris [Pre-Wed]

My girlfriend detests and mistrusts all incantations of Satellite Navigation.  Personally, I firmly believe that even though it might not always feel right, it ultimately always knows where we should end up and therefore, will get us there.  Maps and reams of printed route-planners almost guarantee getting lost.  However, my confidence was shaken on this Pre-Wedding visit to Hey Green Hotel, out in the village of Marsden on the skirt of Huddersfield.  Cutting across from meeting a couple at Holdsworth House in Halifax, 85% of my route was along drystone walled back single lanes, once up someone’s drive and once...

April’s favourite Leeds Guide images

As you may know, I share the duties with a fellow wedding photographer Tom Arber photographing features for the Leeds Guide Magazine.  Every month we get a brief to photograph people, food, products, buildings inside and out & a hell of a lot more besides.  One minute you’re trying to get a documentary photograph of a struggling newsagent, and the next you’re trying to figure out how to make a curry look more photographically appetising than a bowl of poo.  Then you’re photographing someone’s city centre flat, soon followed by a fashion shoot of a usually inexprienced model in her...

Caroline & Damien [Pre-Wed]

In a run of pre-wedding shoots it was great to find time to meet with Caroline & Damien for coffee and a catch up.  I’ve known these two for years, have been on holiday to Barcelona with Damo & went to the same school as Caroline, in her younger sister Joanne’s year.  They’re getting married at the lovely Weetwood Hall in Leeds, which we discovered has fantastic grounds… It was great weather to explore the surrounding woodland, all up dressed for spring, finding secluded corners to use on their big day.  I could tell the whole process weirded them out...

Andrea & Aaron [Wedding] 4th April 2009

We had a fantastic wedding on the first weekend of April covering the wedding of Andrea & Aaron.  The weather in the week running up to their big day was ominous and yet on the day, as is guaranteed with all Barnaby Aldrick Wedding’s, glorious sunshine & blue skies!  (Disclaimer: guaranteed sometimes) We joined Andrea for hair and a cup of tea in the morning, then moved to the Old Brickworks Hotel in Drighlington for final bride & grooms preparations.  It’s hard to choose just a few images to blog, so I’ll include my personal faves from the day, including...

Little Sophie-Alice

A cool childhood pal of mine called Isobell disappeared off the radar for a bit last year, and all of a sudden she pops back up with a baby!!  Er, hello?!  More than a little surprised was I!  After dropping congratulations I was asked round to get a few photos.  I’m no baby photographer, but though “Hey, why not!” and between screams and pukes it was ace fun.  Little Sophie-Alice was a proper sound little babe with the cutest little fingers and nails! Have a goosey at a few faves… [svgallery name="BabyPost"] Thank you Izzy, Michael & Sophie-Alice for letting...
