Carol & Jon [Pre-Wed]

Well it was ace to return to Goldsborough Hall again for Carol & Jon’s Pre-wed shoot on Thursday.  I won’t lie, driving over in the driving rain I thought gloomy thoughts about how I should move & set up shop in California.  But after a schedule chat and wander around the mighty rooms of the still lived-in ancient Hall, the weather cleared off & for a few moments the sun even donned his hat!  I’m sure our weather created the ‘expect-the-bad-but-enjoy-the-good’ Britist temperament. Anyhoos – It was great to meet these two again, especially as Carol wasn’t keen on the...

Pav & Ravi [Pre-Wed]

Saturday was a fantastic & exhausting day, second shooting a dubiously weathered wedding at Ripley Castle with Phil Barber, followed by an ace Sound Gallery gig shoot in a mad old church in Leeds and cheeky pints with Jen & Dave from Pilla into the smaller hours.  It was a day riddled with luck as we somehow managed to duck in and out of biblical monsoons at just the right time. On Sunday morning I peered through the blinds to see glorious sunshine and thought “That’s more like it! Should be a good day for a pre-wed!”, so I settled down to...

Sarah & Jenna [Wedding] 10th May 2009

May 10th was the wedding of the lovely Sarah & Jenna!  A classically grey English spring day, held in its entirety at the Woodlands hotel in Leeds.  There was lots of laughter all round, loads of thought put into the details and a seriously cool cake! There were also shoes everywhere and I visualised this compilation as I shot the wedding party footwear.  I liked the hearts the girls stuck to the bottoms of their shoes & our little page boy looked the business in his mini-suit and cons… It’s always nice seeing a couple getting ready for their big day together and...

Carly & Darren [Pre-Wed]

I met the lovely Carly & Darren today for a pre-wed at Oulton Hall on the South side of Leeds, heading Wakey way.  It’s the first time I’ve been there and it rules!  I’ve glimpsed one or two snaps of it’s pillared colonnade before but that’s about it.  On turning into the grounds, you drive down a long, narrow tree-covered road road through a grand golf course to the old house. Inside I met Carly & Darren and it’s was all marble floors, high vaulted celings & sandstone galleries all the way.  It’s apparently recently had a refurb (they must’ve...

Not exactly what a photographer wants to see!

My first photo at my last wedding made me smile… I bet some people wish they could wear one of those round their necks when I’m sneaking about like a photo-ninja!

Kate & Andy [Pre-Wed]

Check this crazy place out!! It’s Peckforton Castle, Britain’s only intact medieval castle set a hillside above the rolling Cheshire Plain – I’ve got a wedding here in 3 weeks!  I’m giddy as a kipper about it!  You can see the couple are fans of Disney movies – it’s the most fairytale castle I’ve ever seen! And I just met the lucky couple, Kate & Andy, in Leeds for a pre-wedding meeting.  They’ve put loads of thought into the details and after the great hall ceremony & chapel blessing are taking a ride round the grounds in a horse-pulled carriage. ...

Leeds International Swimming Pool // Leeds • UrbEx photography by Barnaby Aldrick

The Leeds International Swimming Pool facility closed in October 2007 and is scheduled for demolition in June this year.  A gifted photographer and friend, James Lester, likes to go ‘Urban Exploring’ and I decided to join him in a bid to document the last period of this Leeds landmark, with a possible plan to run as a feature in the Leeds Guide magazine. It was really fascinating wandering around inside a place I’d come as a child.  I jumped off this diving board once upon a time. Not today maybe James’s often paints in pitch black with light using a...

A long weekend in Ireland

I was lucky enough to be asked to Ireland recently to hang out with and photograph a band I’m really good friends with [in fact I used to play bass in this band once upon a time].  They booked Clare & I a flight and off we flew to get some promotional pictures for their new album.  Check out ODi’s ODi myspace or ODi website to sample their most excellent tunes. We had a lovely weekend hanging out at their house in Drogheda (a small villiage an hour north of Dublin) watching Quantum Leap and drove a 300 mile round...

Sarah & Jenna [Pre-Wed]

It’s been a busy patch of Pre-Wedding shoots for me recently in the run up to a wedding-filled May!  I’m really looking forward to it and have spent a lot of April clearing my desk, organising my calendar & tweaking my workflow for ultimate efficiency come crunch-time!  The couple of weddings I shot through January & February were a great way to ease myself into the year.  Bring on the summer!  Though whether I say that mid-July is anyone’s guess… So – here are the photo highlights of this weeks pre-wedding shoots, with Sarah & Jenna in the lovely springy...
