Carol & Jon [Wedding]

One sunny weekend a few weekends back I joined Carol, Jon & gang for their wedding at Goldsborough Hall in North Yorkshire.  It was such a lovely, downtempo affair on a glorious day.  Being their second marriages, they didn’t want to over egg the pudding and go over the top.  I personally think they hit the balance perfectly – a great venue for select guests, ace music (3 piece orchestra, a full jukebox and an amazing busker from Leeds centre!), fun & games for the kids and a BBQ for evening guests. Plus, Jon’s the Managing Director of one of...

Angie & Chris [Wedding]

Not too long ago was the wonderful wedding of Angie & Chris. The weekend before and weekend after were glorious, but their date sadly fell on a rainy one in between. But hey – as I always say, in England most of a wedding is spent indoors, and if a window arises as showers lighten, we duck out & get a few snaps under a white brolly.  They and their guests were in good spirits and it was a fun day all round.  I had the help of Greg Roslon, a skilled photographer & friend, helping out on the day. ...

Caroline & Damien [Wedding]

The sun certainly was smiling on Damien & Caroline on their wedding day back on the last weekend in May – so much so that I inadvertently topped up my sunburn.  Clare & I had a lovely day photographing the goings on, at respective parental digs round Roundhay, at the Church on Harrogate Road & the lovely Weetwood Hall on the ring road.  Once upon a time, I went to Roundhay school with Caroline, in her sister Joanne’s year, and have hung out with Damien since we were teenagers.  It was great being in and around old school friends and...

How and why I love travel photography, a long-winded tale

I’m a traveller.  Always have been.  There’s nothing I love more than taking in and soaking up interesting cultures, cuisines and places. Throughout my childhood my parents thought it wise to annually pack 3 naughty brothers into a saloon Volvo, and tow a caravan and leaky awning to the distant vineyards of Europe. It was all about burnt meat and pomme frites, diving in cold lakes & riding our bikes round woods. But for me, the first stirrings of solo travel were when I was about 10 and went away on organised canal holiday camps.  I did 8 years on...

Kate & Andy [Wedding]

Kate & Andy’s wedding a few weeks back was quite possibly one of my favourite weddings yet. It was held in the amazing Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, Britain’s only intact medieval castle.  Not only was the venue picturesque (including mincing peacocks), the weather glorious, and my photographic company sterling (Phil Barber came along for the ride); but Kate & Andy had tied in a Disney Theme, with fun details EVERYWHERE.  There were teddy’s hidden around the grounds, a madhatters afternoon teaparty, lawn games, a horse & carriage ride, a string quartet playing disney classics and more.  Have a look at...

An excellent first dance song choice!

Last weekend I shot Angie & Chris’s wedding at Hey Green, a fabulous venue deep in the rolling Yorkshire countryside.  The week previous I’d been posting about how summer’d come and showed all those suns on a BBC weather screendump.  Well, mother nature’s mood had changed somewhat when I did the ol’ morning forcast… “Cool and showery”.  She must’ve known my friend Phil Barber had two weddings under giant open Teepees that weekend. Anyhoos, and to the point – weather wasn’t a problem and we managed a quick everyone shot in the drizzle, and ducked out for a quick portrait...

June pre-wed blitz! [Pre-Weds]

Well it’s shooting season again! Weddings are rolling up & through thick and fast now. I don’t think I’ve a free weekend till mid August.  B man’s starting to envy these kids throwing mad weddings & bouncing off to Mauritius to chill in stilted huts!  But summer’s filled with cool clients and cool places to shoot and it’s great being busy. This past week I shot a fun, if wet, wedding at Hey Green in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE (satnav went mental and took me on a tour of various interesting farms) and I met 3 clients for their pre-wed...

Some like it hot!

I take very little heed of weather forecasts, especially the 5 day forcast.  It’s an educated guess and I’ve rarely seen it be right.  But I do like to check the ‘Next 24 Hours’ bit before setting out, to see the shape of the day.  Last Thursday’s wedding at the amazing Peckforton Castle was as follows … I can live with that.

Carly & Darren [Wedding] 24th May 2009

So – Carly & Darren’s big day arrived, and the weather was gorgeous! I managed to get sunburnt, in Yorkshire in May! Check the sunshine… This is Oulton Hall, a luxury Hotel and Spa in South Leeds.  This was the first time I’d done a wedding here and it’s a stunning building.  It’s recently had a refurb and it’s styled beautifully inside, with a subtle retro kitch edge.  It’s great to work at a venue that has grand, bright interiors, incase it’s raining and we need to shoot indoors.  Not that that was an issue for Carly & Darren! So,...

A snap I liked

I saw this while I was out with my camera and it caught my eye. Something inside of me always wants to know what’s left and why we’re being told to go right.  No doubt it’s for our own good (turning into oncoming traffic isn’t big or clever), but it philosophically never hurts to check. Besides, if you don’t look right, you look wrong. Deep… ;-]
