Apple TV // Hello toys! [by Barnaby Aldrick]

On a heavy & bloated boxing day I was idly googling (watch out Collin’s Oxford Dictionary – new word incoming) and somehow I started reading into the latest iPhone OS update.  These days I like to check if it’s worth a wasted afternoon formatting, updating & syncing back all my  iPhone data only to find…

nohman zidane - i was wondering if you can use it to mirror your macs screen image ( does it replace the tv cabling) and if not. can you play your personal movie collection ( not quicktime compat)
thanks B

Barnaby Aldrick - I’ve not heard of it being able to desktop mirror/2nd monitor with aTV, and it only plays itunes friendly movie formats. So you have to convert AVI’s etc to MP4/M4v’s with the free transcoder Handbreak or by using apps that ‘repackage’ movie formats etc into MP4s, which is much faster than the decoding & recoding process of transcoding. So although it’s a clever system, you’ll have to live with the HDMI cable & re-encode your movie library. Boo.

Corinne Bailey-Rae // Left Bank, Leeds [by Barnaby Aldrick]

I was recently asked along to photograph another Corinne Bailey-Rae gig in Leeds (pics from the last Leeds Academy can be seen here). This gig was at Left Bank Leeds, an arts and events venue in the former St Margaret of Antioch church in the heart of Leeds’ student ghetto, Hyde Park. This church has…

Jane Barlow - Barnaby, these are fantastic pictures. I don’t remember this church at all in Hyde Park – funny how the memory slips, but what a wonderful place. Keep up the great work (I lurk frequently on your site:-)

Shireen - Hi Barnaby

I would love a copy of the photo of me and my friend Amy with our flasks in the shot 7, it was literally one of the most perfect nights of my life and my friend spotted me on this photo and sent it to me. Would I be able to get a copy please?

p.s Also I am a Leeds-based actress with lots of screen experience including modelling work and I’d be up for collaborating with you in future based on your work above. Really great stuff.

Thanks

Shireen Farkhoy

Barnaby Aldrick - Sure thing Shireen – I’ll email it over. Thanks for the lovely comment x

BBC Introducing special at Leeds College of Music // by Barnaby Aldrick | Barnaby Aldrick Wedding Photography - Blog - [...] The final act of the evening were Little Parades, a band I’d also photographed last year at the amazing Left Bank former derelict church last year, supporting Corinne Bailey Rae (post here) [...]

A Sign of the Times and the Future // Amazing Video [by Barnaby Aldrick]

Check this crazy video out.  I spotted it on DSLR cimema guru Vincent Laforet’s blog: It’s Alex Roman‘s latest video project.  But before I go into more detail, check this out too: That was a project made by a Graphic Designer/Art Director based in the UK BC2010. Aside from being great looking films, the amazing thing about…

Yesterday I joined the lovely Kate & Matthew to photograph their wonderful wintery wedding at The Hospitium in York!  Myself and my 2nd shooty wingman Pete Boyd (of PBPhoto) had an class day in perfect wintery (but not too wintery) weather.  It was my last wedding of 2010 and the sun was shining, snow was…

Natasha - Hey Barnaby
Amazing pictures. I was actually at the gig and did see you.. but you were to busy to interupt! ;-0 Would you be able to shed some geeky info and share settings that you used for some of the shots! ;-) x

Barnaby Aldrick - Of course my dear Nat! (Lovely to hear from ye too). My general rule in a gig scenario of type & lighting is shoot manually around 1/50th>1/100th @ f2.8 or lower at up to 1600 ISO on a variety of lenses (in this case the 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8 IS, 50mm f1.4 & 35 f2.0). I’m not a huge fan of the muddy noisiness above 1600ISO, even on the 5DmkII, so generally party at around 1250ISO or less. If the light is too low for f2.8 lenses at handholdable shutterspeeds (ie. ‘shutter = 1/focal length’ rule) I switch to the 50mm and shoot at f1.6 (I find f1.4 is too hit & miss) & dial in a manual shutter speed. This can also be useful with fast moving bands to freeze movement. The images in this post all adhere to these rules, and more likely than not are all either 1/50th @ f2.8 at 1250ISO or 1/100th @ f1.6 at 1250ISO. Hope that helps. Have a great xmas x
