Kate & Barrie // Hazlewood Castle Wedding • Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

The last of my December weddings was joining Kate & Barrie for their big day. These kids were so much fun to shoot. It was at Hazlewood Castle, a fantastic venue on the way out to York, still chilling under a dusting of snow. It’s always fun shooting there. Here’s the beautiful Kate, being made up in her ‘Bride’ dressing gown! We spent the morning photographing the girls preparations. A few favourites… Fizzing bucks! I love this one of Kate! Those lit mirrors are my friend! As is the off camera flash to stage right! Kate’s gorgeous dress.  It had...

Urban Portraits // 3B Media • Inspiring Photography Workshop – a great success!

This week Rob Booker, Phil Barber & myself ran our first 3B Media ‘Inspiring Photography’ workshop, called ‘Urban Portraits’.  We’ve been planning it for quite some time now and it turned out to be such a fantastic day! At the Round Foundry Media Centre near Leeds’ Granary Wharf we brought together 2 models, a make-up artist & 4 delegates and spent the day teaching them how we shoot portraits in the urban environment. The delegates had fun shooting our pro-models, and it was so rewarding seeing them grow in confidence through the day. In fact, some of the images they...

George Grand Duo // TSG Band Profile Shoot @ The Loft Leeds

Myself and Snr Barber were recently asked to pop on our Sound Gallery hats and shoot some promotional images for the Leeds-based George Grant Jazz Duo. They had a gig coming up at the Loft Events Space, so we joined them for an hour beforehand to shoot a few snaps. Below are a couple of highlights… We settled them in by letting em do what they do, serenading us with a bit of jazz while we shot NYC style outdoor pics in the fast fading daylight. The as the light left, and even Barber’s f1.2′s wouldn’t cut the mustard, we...

Another Birthday stroll, this time at Harewood // photography by Barnaby Aldrick

It was my brother Murray’s birthday this weekend. He’d hit 27 hard and rolled in at 4am the night previous.  Lets just say it was hard work prizing him from his duvet at 12:30.  ‘Gaunt’ would make a fitting adjective. Mum decided to round the troops at noon for bday Roast lamb! At noon fifteen Duncan rang to say he too had had a little sauce the night before and had slept through the alarm.  But at the strike of 1pm, this badboy came out of the oven & everyone materialised and a damn fine lunch was had… After dad’s...

‘The Battle of Plumpton’ & ‘Singin in the Rain’ // Music Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

Firstly! This is my 100th Blog post! Woo hoo! I think I’ll give my blog a very happy birthday card. Feel free to sing if you feel so inclined.  I’m sure the “Happy birthday dear Barnaby Aldrick Wedding Photography Bloooooog…” bit will sound mint. But to theerious bidniss! I’ve been up to a bit of musical photography of late and thought I’d like to share – starting with… Leeds music stalwart James Owen Fender decided to host a Battle of the Bands to dig out Leeds’ finest upcoming groups in association with his night ‘Plumpton Presents‘.  It’s been cunningly named...

Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour // video by Barnaby Aldrick

My girl Clare is Strictly Come Dancing OBSESSED.  Ever since the season finishing in December she’s been somewhat lost and listless, pining for It Takes Two.  I won’t lie it’s actually quite good telly, watching boxers stumble over their own lead feet, seeing Bruce Forsyth gradually go completely senile and watching the tasty professional dancers appear in ever-skimpier costumes. So for Christmas I bought Clare tickets for the Live UK Tour (which we went to last year too, but don’t tell anyone) Proudly sporting the new fight club replica leather jacket Clare got me for my 30th, we first stopped...

Vicki & Simon // Harrogate Wedding at The Old Swan • by Barnaby Aldrick

The second of my Christmas weddings was a Harrogate wedding celebration for Vicki & Simon, who’d married New York back in December. The weather was snowy, but not quite as snowy as it had been in Central Park where they married OUTSIDE, in the exact spot Simon proposed! I love that you can marry wherever you please in the States, instead of ‘duly sanctioned places’ in the UK. Though getting married on the beach or in the woods in Scotland doesn’t have quite the same appeal as it does in California… So – Vicki & Simon had a fun vintage...

3B Media & Randall Network // Urban Portraits [photography by Barnaby Aldrick]

Back in October we had a cheeky Randall Network catch-up at TGI’s in Leeds for photographers who’ve rallied under Stewart Randall‘s photographic umbrella.  It was a social really, and lots of fun getting together with like-minded creatives. Afterwards we 3B had planned to meet our Urban Portraits workshop models to do a little practice shoot around the Leeds Riverside.  We let the Randalists know about this in advance and put out an open invite for those togs to come along if they fancied. By the time we’d pulled our fingers out, convoyed across Leeds & found parking, the light was...

Sharyn & Maurice // Winter Woodland Wedding • Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

The Christmas period is a great time to have a wedding.  People are in good spirits, are generally on holiday and have the new year to look forward to. Plus you sometimes get snow! I had had a busy Christmas period, shooting 3 weddings – The first of which was with Sharyn & Maruice at the lovely Woodlands Hotel in Leeds. And I was caught by surprise when going through Clare’s pics of the gents preps, saw Maurice having his melon shaved by his best man! Up in the penthouse the ladies were getting ready, and the flowers had just...

30th Gangsters and Molls birthday photobooth // photography by Barnaby Aldrick

I recently turned thirty and last night celebrated this milestone with a good pal of mine, the lovely Jennie Chapman, who’d just turned 25. Cos fancy dress not only is fun but breeds fun, we decided to make it a Gangsters and Molls themed knees up. The theme could be liberally interpreted, and I was expecting Ali G’s, Scarfaces & rappers but I love everything from that 20′s Gangster era.  I love art deco, fedoras and film noirs, where hard-boiled private eyes talk to themselves like: “She was a pushy dame, but I needed the case.  She had the body...
