Alice & Andy // Pre-Wedding Shoot • Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

A couple of weekends back I went out to snap the pre-wed of a couple who’s wedding I’m very much looking forward to this summer. They’re throwing the majority of their wedding in a marquee in the grounds of at Alice’s parents place out near Wetherby. Check out the manor house… …and the lady & lord of the manor!  You’ll see that these two rule and we’re so easy to photograph. You may notice that in this and a few recent posts I’ve ‘processed’ my images to look washed out and a bit 70s.  Well recently I’ve found a few...

Tilt shift in The Sandpit // Inspiring photography & video • Barnaby Aldrick Blog

Today the Canon Professional Services (CPS) visited The Flash Centre in Leeds and offered to deep clean DSLR sensors and generally meet, greet and geek with members.  I’ve been a member for some time and dropped by to get my 5DmkII & 5D chemically cleaned.  Anyhoos – while my babies were being manhandled, I had a play at the toyshop. There was a table of pretty much every canon lens available – which is about this many: You could probably buy a house with the value of the glass above. But while I was killing time, I had a play...

Walks that end at a good pub // Farnely Tyas, Yorkshire • by Barnaby Aldrick

After a family friend’s 60th last Saturday Clare & I decided to act particularly middle-aged and use the ‘50 Walks in West Yorkshire‘ book my mum got us for Xmas.  We decided it doesn’t take much to get out & enjoy the lovely Yorkshire countryside (excluding serveral snooze presses and LOTS of caffeine), so we consulted mum for a walk that ended at a tasty gastro-pub (of which she’s a walking encyclopedia), and drove out to the village of Farnely Tyas. We’d detoured via an miss-tapped SatNav postcode into an impressivly rough Huddersfield council estate (my bad) that clearly wasn’t...

Sunday Service February // Music Photography • by Barnaby Aldrick

I run a monthly band night in Leeds centre called the Sunday Service and have only just found a moment to process the images from February’s gig. It was a cracking gig at Verve bar, featuring three solid and significantly different acts. Our old pals Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts returned for another round… They’re an imaginative, colourful & unfairly talented folk duet about to tour on a new album. Jamie’s lap guitar has to be seen… …and Katriona’s fiddling while singing, to be believed. She’s told me how hard it was to learn to do that. If you wanna...

Erica & Dave // Fountain’s Abbey Pre-Wedding Shoot • Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

Greetings y’all!  I thought I’d posted this post last week, but in it would seem evidently not. So here it is for ye now. A couple of weekends back I shot 2 pre-wedding shoots with upcoming couples at Yorkshire’s best preserved and beautifully positioned Abbeys. The first was at Bolton Abbey over in the Dales with Rachel & Iain (post here) for a serious couple of hour stroll, then I zipped “o’er’t tops”, with doubtful but devout faith in TomTom, and popped up here… …at Fountains Abbey - one of the awesome ancient Abbey’s Henry VIII knocked down cos he was pissed...

Helen & Richard // OTD Wedding Slideshow – by Barnaby Aldrick

You’ve gotta love UK weather eh? Last Saturday was the wedding of Helen & Richard & mother nature didn’t even give us the nine-till-noon grey cloud window predicted by the BBC… …but the spring showers didn’t dampen spirits and it was a supremely chilled out wedding at Fairfield Manor in York. As is generally the case, during Helen & Richards wedding breakfast I backed up Helen & Richards images to my laptop and made a quick slideshow to show at the evening reception. Generally these slideshows are around 80>100 images long and just run on the laptop on a table...

Tasty food, tasty processing // Food Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

Another food shoot I did recently was with Dine Catering Services. They asked me down in association with the Leeds Guide to pap a bit of their food. What appears here to be a little cherry tom is actually a baby toffee apple. Cheeky. A swanky hazlenut crusted yorkshire goats cheese with matchstick apple & mustard seed combo. Sliced artichoke on fish something or t’other. I should perhaps do my research before trying to name these. But the point of this post was really for this image. I was playing with it in photoshop & ran a few slightly wacky...

Memories of Water // Promo photography by Barnaby Aldrick

I was recently asked by a thespian pal of mine if I fancied joining her and some actorly pals to shoot some promo pix for a new play they’ve coming up. It’s entitled ‘Memories of Water’ and is apparently about some estranged sisters who are drawn home after a death in the family, and they don’t get on and all remembered their pasts differently. If you could take a photo of that, that’d be lovely.  That was my brief. Set by this joker.  We call her She Rah.  Nothing like making life difficult. But I likes a challenge. We hooked...

Rachel & Iain // Pre-Wedding Shoot • Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

Last weekend I joined these nutters for a ‘stroll’ at Bolton Abbey. They’re called Rachel & Iain and are absolutely great.  They booked me a yonk back, and are really excited about getting married soon. I can tell they really value photography (cos they said so and that it was the next thing they booked after the venue) and decided to have their pre-wedding practice photography out round Bolton Abbey in the Yorkshire Dales. It was a stunning day and we went on a right old walk.  I’d done the walk around Christmas with my folks, and it took a...

White Rose Caterers // Food Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

It’s been a busy week at BAWP HQ, generally getting on top of admin, tweaking my official Barnaby Aldrick Wedding Photography site & brainstorming the upcoming 3B Media site with Phil & Rob.  But one shoot of interest this week was a food shoot for White Rose Caterers, out in Silsden, in deepest Yorkshire… It was a beautiful springy day (more so than the processing on the above image would lead you to believe), and I had the top down on the MG, burning down the kind of country lanes that make you suspicious of SatNav. You know, the kind...
