Link International Kenya Drive! // African Charity Photography – by Barnaby Aldrick

It has been a hectic month indeed!  Not only have we been blazing at loads of weddings every weekend (3 last weekend), but we also just moved house (during peak wedding season!? Smart move?) but I’m also about to go off to Africa for a month’s charity photography with a charity called Link International, who have various projects in Uganda. Basically, about 6 months ago I was asked by one of the charity directors, a friend of mine & ace musician called Gavin Mart, if I fancied joining them to photograph & document their latest project. The backstory is that...

Angela & Leo // OTD Wedding Slideshow @ Woodlands Hotel – by Barnaby Aldrick

Yesterday, Clare & I photographed our third wedding this weekend (!), joining Leo & Angela for their big day at Woodlands Hotel in Leeds. While Clare stalked the boys, I joined Angie & the girls at their stunning house for the bridal preps. In their wonderfully bright conservatory I found these puppies hanging perfectly. And these kicks, reflecting beautifully on their bar!! You could see the thought Angie & Leo had put into everything.  Their bouquets were stunning. I generally leave the room while the bride gets into the dress, and while outside, I spotted Ange’s Mum having a peek...

Kelly & John // OTD Wedding Slideshow @ Oulton Hall – by Barnaby Aldrick

Yesterday Clare & I joined Kelly & John to photograph their wedding at the beautiful Oulton Hall in Leeds. I first hooked up with the gents to catch them causing mayhem on the range.  This wasn’t the first swing this dude missed this ball… My instructions were something along the line of “Do something other than stand in a line” Nice choice. Meanwhile, Kelly inspected her freshly delivered flora Oulton Hall have some seriously cool sofas on which to snap the details. Kelly’s girls hooking her into her beautiful dress. A cheeky portrait before heading down to the ceremony… The...

Emma & James // OTD Wedding Slideshow @ Mitton Hall – by Barnaby Aldrick

Yesterday I joined one of my most excellent couples Emma & James for their wedding at the stunning Mitton Hall, in Lancashire. It’s a crazy place.  An ancient hall that’s been converted into a Boutique Hotel, that’s hugely inspiring now we’ve got a new house to play with. Besides, anywhere that proudly hangs paintings of dogs in human clothes is good with me. But I just noticed that in the madness of the past few months I’ve somehow managed to forget to blog their pre-wed practice shoot! Sorry guys! Here are a few of my faves from their pre-wed: Can...

A weekend in the Dales // by Barnaby Aldrick

I’m a busy B at the moment, in the thick of wedding season.  As well as that I just moved house last week (hence a short-lived radio silence) and at the end of the week (on my only free weekend between May & August) threw a housewarming BBQ slash England Game slash fundraiser for a project I’m going on to Africa in 2 weeks (more on that soon).  There’s nothing like keeping yourself busy. However, I’ve always been a believer in the ‘smell the roses while you can’ ethos of making time in your life, no matter how busy, for...

Kelly & John // Oulton Hall Pre-Wedding Shoot • Photography by Barnaby Aldrick

When I meet potential clients, I often harp on about the importance of the Pre-wedding meeting.  It’s such an important part of my style and process. So using the recent pre-wed of John & Kelly at the lovely Oulton Hall last week as my models, let me explain the reasons why they rock… 1. A practice shoot allows a couple to experience how it feels on that side of the camera before their big day. Which I won’t lie, is often weird. 2. It allows us to nosey round the venue so I’ve got my bearings on the day & we...

Emma & Matthew // OTD Wedding Slideshow – by Barnaby Aldrick

Last weekend I joined the lovely Emma & Matthew (above, and not in that order) to photograph their wedding over at East Riddlesdon Hall. Not only are the two of them absolute legends, but they’re both creative types with a real appreciation for photography. They really understood what I was after & after a pre-wed a few weeks back, were totally natural & essentially behaved as though I wasn’t there. I liked the feel of this one of Emma getting made up. …and Clare caught this semi-nervous portrait of Matt having his corsage put on my his mum. I liked...

Kelly & Pete // Fountains Abbey Wedding portraits – by Barnaby Aldrick

Last weekend I was at Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire shooting wedding photography for a pal & fellow photographer Peter Boyd & his lovely lady Kelly.  I’m handing him the Raw files to process himself (‘shoot n’burn’, we togs call em), but when I was drifting through the files, I couldn’t help mesen, and slipped on Lightroom & look what fell out… Nice eh? Kelly had asked that I shot them under the derelict Abbey tower. We’d had a thoroughly enjoyable pre-wed shoot a while back (post here), and this doorway made for a lovely portrait & shelter from the drizzle back...

3B Media // Website launch!

You may be aware that Rob Booker, Phil Barber & myself, all established Leeds-based snappers, joined forces last year to pool our skills into 3B Media. [FYI: The 3B's come from the B's of our nicknames 'Barber', 'Booker' & 'Barns'] Our common goal has been to create an exciting, forward-thinking company with 3 major goals: 1. To run fun workshops train & develop the stills & video skills of photographic enthusiasts & aspiring pro’s 2. To take on interesting commissions in photography & video that we wouldn’t be able to approach as standalone photographers 3. To inspire one another & the world...

David Shrigley // A photographic legend? – by Barnaby Aldrick

I was recently in a card shop & bought a David Shrigley card of one of his amusing photographs.  Most people know him for his child-like, screwball doodles, but I love his silly photos of grim everyday places with a twist of stupidity.  The things that catches his eye and sparks his blackly comic imagination really tickle my funny bone. Get a load of these… Genius or rubbish?  Of course it’s in the eye of the beholder, but I think he rules. For more of Mr Shrigley’s images, doodles & other weird & wonderful workings of his mind, check out...
