Australia 2012 // Holiday movie shot on the Sony HX9v [by Barnaby Aldrick Photography]

Thumb

Greetings! Well, I’ve been back from our three week January break in Australia for a good few days now and apart from getting some quality time in with the pooch, I’ve basically been chopping together a wee holiday video to remind us of our trip; taking in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane & Fraser Island.  Check it out: The music is the beautiful ‘Hush’ by Aussy folk-duo ‘Angus & Julia Stone’ (track and album available to buy here) I was inspired by a post fellow snapper Cris Matthews pointed me to on f-stoppers.com (here), entitled ‘How a professional photographer should document a vacation’.  It...

Book Cover // Faith In A Changing World [by Barnaby Aldrick Photography]

Book-Cover

A pal who’s an ace photographer and, by trade, a graphic designer, got in touch a few weeks back to ask if they could use one of the travel images on a book they’re designing.  I was more than happy to oblige and here’s the finished cover! It’s ace to see one of my images used in such a way! Here’s the original image, shot in Cambodia outside the royal palace in Phnom Penh.  It was actually shot on a 3 megapixel fuji prosumer camera (the now archaic Fuji S5000) and I spent a while panning with (ie. tracking the movement of) passing...

Turkey // A well earned break [by Barnaby Aldrick Photography]

Turkey-i-006

In late September, between weddings Clare & I took a week off to catch some late summer sun in the resort of Bitez, in Turkey. As late Autumn is turning to winter, and it’s cold and grim out, I thought I’d share a few sunny pics to charge those cells. After a long and busy wedding season, it was just what the doctor ordered!  A pool to snooze by, sun to burn in… …and a communal inflatable dolphin to ride!We were literally on the beach of a quiet bay and it was so good to unwind. The kebabs were good! The coffee was...

Move. Eat. Learn. Rick Mereki’s triptych moving love letter to travel

MOVE-EAT-LEARN

“3 guys, 44 days, 11 countries, 18 flights, 38 thousand miles, an exploding volcano, 2 cameras and almost a terabyte of footage… all to turn 3 ambitious linear concepts based on movement, learning and food ….into 3 beautiful and hopefully compelling short films.” That’s a quote from Rick Mereki, who with two buddies (producer Tim White & actor Andrew Lees) somehow convinced Australia’s STA Travel to fund their exotic, 11-country jaunt!   Their pitch, to create three 1 minute videos on the theme of Moving, Eating and Learning.  After sifting & chopping through a terabyte of what appears to be DSLR stock, Rick...

Mini Munchen // Tilt Shift Effect Canon IXUS 1000HS images [by Barnaby Aldrick Wedding Photography]

Mini Munchen 07

A few weeks back a few buddies and I decided to go to Munich to celebrate one of our groups 30th Birthday. We had a reet ol’ laugh and generally drank too many litre steins of dunkel & helles beer and ate slightly too much smokey meat and potato based produce! Armed as I usually am with a camera of some kind (in this case the Canon IXUS 1000HS), I happily snapped away as we wandered/cycled around the city. Readers of my blog will know I love the miniature look created by Tilt-Shift lenses (type ’tilt shift’ into the search bar...

Marrakesh – Canon IXUS 1000HS time lapse video // by Barnaby Aldrick

Yesterday I posted stills I shot in Marrakesh on my new toy, the Canon IXUS 1000HS.  Well as well as tasty 10 megapixel JPEGs (sadly there’s no RAW functionality in the IXUS ‘fun’ line-up), this little player has been specifically designed with HD video in mind.  Check out the 16:9 format screen & dedicated record button for starters. But unlike many other compacts, it also shoots full 1080p HD footage.  This was one of the features that floated my boat, as it can be a bit of a pain having to go through the whole 5DmkII workflow for a quick...

Marrakesh – Canon IXUS 1000HS stills // by Barnaby Aldrick

In anticipation to a November break to Marrakesh in Morocco, I spent a good while trying to decide between Canon’s latest, greatest compact offerings, the Powershot S95 & the IXUS 1000HS. To cut a long story short, I bought this badboy… And it was loads of fun getting to know it it in Marrakesh last week.  As a major fan of the tilt-shift lens look (see blog post here), I was particularly interested in & impressed by the ‘Miniature mode’ (which works on both stills and HD video).  It not only gave that great selective, perspective blur, but also the...

Gay Paris // iPhone Hipstamatic Photography [by Barnaby Aldrick]

I’m just about to head out to France to shoot another exciting wedding, this time in the Alsace.  It’s my 2nd wedding of the year out there and I’m thoroughly enjoying playing the international wedding photographer card!  Not least because it’s an opportunity to squeeze a little holiday in around it. When we were last in France for the wedding of Deborah & James (post here) Clare & I spent a day and a half moseying around Paris.  Even though I had all my tasty glass & toys with me, I decided to shoot the city from my iPhone. I’m...
