The Old Brickworks, Elland // Urban Exploration [by Barnaby Aldrick Photography]

Last December, a past wedding client called Rob, who married the beautiful Vicky at their wedding at Priory Cottages in Syningthwaite (blog highlights here) commissioned me to come and photograph his company ‘Portfolio Display’ workforce and premises. Afterwards, we headed up the the valley to do a few shots looking down over the valley to show the…

Urban Exploration // Sunny Bank Mill, Farsley [Barnaby Aldrick Photography]

Last Friday I was lucky enough to be asked along by a pal on an Urban Exploration ‘permission visit’ to Sunny Bank Mill in Farsley, Leeds Here’s the man that can, Joe Stenson; an architect, photographer and a gent, who takes his Urban Exploration across Europe (he’s got PanEuropeanUrbanExporer on his business card!) and has visited some seriously impressive…

A guided tour of Adel Woods // Urban Exploration [By Barnaby Aldrick]

For a long time a good buddy of mine has promised to take me out exploring some woods near Adel, where he grew up. We finally set a date and a during a beautifully summery day a few weeks back, out we set, starting by clambering up Eagle rock (above) Here’s said buddy; Joe Cowin,…

janice - I stumbled across your photos looking for woodland pictures for a piece of art work. What a find, these images are magical. All the more clearer as many moons ago I visited Adel woods myself with your tour guide! I was missing the fells and greenery of Cumbria and these woods were great medicine for the soul. Thanks for posting these photos, pure gems. And say hi to Joe for me.

Barnaby Aldrick - How very bizarre! Thanks for the kind words and I’ll pass on your Salutations! x B

Urban Exploration // Derelict laundry machinery factory [by Barnaby Aldrick]

I do like to do a spot of what’s called ‘Urban Exploring‘.  Basically, it’s photographing in derelict spaces. I like to go with my pals James & Aiden, and we recently decided we’ve all been a bit busy working of late and we decided we needed an ‘Urbex’ break The policy is basically not to…

Kathryn Widdowson - Love this set of images, I really do. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea and I’m slightly surprising myself being into them! But they have completely compelled me to leave a comment. Derelict but still with a story to tell. HDR drawer, nice touch.

Barnaby Aldrick - Cheers for the comment Kathryn! When left to time & nature, these places definitely have something magical about them.

Christopher Campbell - One of your better Urbex posts (in my honest opinion)! I love those technical drawings you found and like the overall feel of the place. It has a real grungy feel to it, almost spooky! Good stuff!

Barnaby Aldrick - Ta Chris! I’ve probably emphasised the spookiness in Lightroom!

Urban Explorer - These images, what I can see of them, are incredible.

Unfortunately there are so many high quality pics that they’ve crippled my dongle, which I hope not to say too often, but as I say the ones that I can see are great.

I particularly liked the mysterious poster, but the shots of derelict corners of the building looked gorgeous as well. Was the lighting at all difficult, or was it as co-operative as it looks?

Barnaby Aldrick - Thanks for the comment Jimmy. The lighting was all natural and behaved beautifully! Though much of the atmosphere was brought to life via the magic of Adobe Lightroom… ;-)

Horsforth Dyeworks // Urban Exploration [by Barnaby Aldrick]

Hey Folks! Apologies for the early January radio silence!  I’m still recoiling from the deluge that was double Xmas feasting (with my family in Leeds & Clare’s in Dorset), New Year’s partying & my 31st birthday bowlorama all in the space of a few weeks. But to counter the lethargy, I’ve a beautiful new coffee…

James Dolan - Some great shots here mate, I didn’t find all the rooms that you’ve got but managed to get around. P.s this place is called Colorflex.

Playing with light // photographic experimentation by Barnaby Aldrick

I was just digging out some pics from the working folder of my computer and stumbled upon two photos I created while doing some urbex a while back. They were an experimentation in creating light trails with torches during long exposures. Basically, I set up the camera on a tripod in an already quite dark…

Chris Campbell - Very nice! When at Bolton Abbey last I tried getting the soft blury water photo that everyone seems to take. Unfortunately they kept coming out over-exposed. I think it was the fact that it was a sunny day. Might have a go at light trails next! :)

Urban Exploration // Abandoned Mill, Bradford • Video by Barnaby Aldrick

You may remember that I recently posted a blog about a sweet short movie by Irish Photographer Larry McMahon in an empty mill.  It had a haunting ’28 days later’ feel to it (check it out here) and he’d shot it on a ‘Glidetrack‘, which is basically a portable ‘Dolly’ rail you can attach your…

Emma in London - cool bananas!

Rameez - Hey mate just saw your video and been looking over the rest of your work and I gotta say that your photos are pretty amazing. Me and my mates were thinking of going there but it seemed to be on lock down when we were around. But seeing this recent video I reckon we got a chance to go in. Did you know they blocked off hunslett mill now? Yeah pretty bad but we already got in and got the pics we needed.

Anyways would love to urbex with you sometime mate it would be great. Hope to see more awesome work!

Barnaby Aldrick - Glad you like amigo. That bradford mill was pretty easy access, but there were dudes patrolling next door. I spose you’ve just gotta choose your time right!

James Dolan - Love this video – great edit. I was going to say what my mate (Rameez) said but looks like he beat me to it haha. Timing is essential. A must visit before it gets converted.
