Pav & Ravi [Wedding]

I recently joined Palvindar & Ravi (AKA: Pav & Rav) for their wedding at the Marriott Hotel in the middle of Leeds. They integrated loads of great Indian details into an altogether English Civil Ceremony.  I particularly liked the Henna details, Bollywood tunage & indian buffet supplied by the amazing Aagrah!  Mmmm.

Let me photographically guide you though my highlights…

The Marriott – in sepia, cos surprise surprise, it was a typical English summer’s day read ‘overcast with light-showers and a moderate northeasterly wind’.

A special thanks also should be given to the amazing Natalie Cohen, the Marriott’s co-ordinator, who was a pleasure to work with and made our life so easy!

Pav and her sister Bal were already in their dresses when we arrived and it was all very relaxed…

Hair & makeup, including the application of a full-on beehive & hairpiece!

I loved Pav & Bals henna.  I learned that the hands always go darker than the rest of the body, and the darker it goes the more the bride loves her husband.

Bals hands.

Probably my fave shot of the day.  Henna rocks.

I found the the bouquets downstairs & brought them up for Pav (those jugs weren’t light!) and thought the bouquets looked the business left in ‘em!

But I can’t decide if I prefer them laid out on the chair.  Your thoughts?

A nice moment between sisters.

This made me laugh.  As nerves were building, Pav rang room service for some toast.  Then just before hanging up she said “…and some champagne”.

I love people.  They make me smile.

Darshan & Dal (mum & bro) joined the fun just before heading down.

I like the line ‘to have and to hold’

And like the fact that children this age think everything is food.

After 3! Three, two, one…

Whoever’s arm that was through the middle sabotaged most of these shots, but I think it actually helps this one!

I like the look of this chap, wishing his congrats.

These dudes were ace, and sitar & tabla sound really brought the ethnic vibe.  If you need this duo, contact Imran on 07740 817 500 / imranishaq@hotmail.com

After the weather had settled Pav & Ravi were game for a turn around Leeds centre.  It’s amusing seeing the wellwishers & heads turning.

There was a great bar in Leeds called ‘Franks’ that used the exact logo of this old hairdressers. It’s been derelict forever, but has a great charm old school to it.

Inside the grand Corn Exchange.  The building was actually closed when we arrived, but the staff in Anthony’s Piazza let us up to the barrier for a few snaps.

You can get away with anything in a wedding gown.  Not that I’ve tried.

Down Hurst’s Yard, off Call Lane – one of the cool olde yards of Leeds.

I’ve seen a lot of different wedding breakfasts done a lot of different ways.  Delsonic were hired for the audio visual side of things and they really blew me away. So many couples rely on the venue to light the wedding breakfast & have a dj with a few disco lights for the evening, but these guys built a stylish scaffolding rig, filled with ace lights.  They handled the sound & radio mic introductions, had pyrotechnics that almost stopped my heart (confetti bombs during first dance!), dry ice and fantastic lighting. They were total pros & as their tagline states, they brought ‘A touch of class’ to the proceedings.

As a photographer it made a pleasant change indeed to use their georgeous ambient lighting of relying on my flashguns.

Check out the cake Eiffel Tower! There was a Parisienne theme throughout, as I believe they got engaged there.  Tables were named after Paris’s famous streets & landmarks. This cake was about 3 foot high!

Bit of low light (3200 ISO) photography for the togs!

We ended up having such a good time bathing in light that we stayed right till the end, and the DJ’s got Ravi down on one knee again for the last dance, with more pyrotechnical fun, then everyone piled in for a group hug & a cheeky wave to the camera!

Happy days.

As usual, we had a blast at the wedding.  Loads of great people from far & wide all piling in for a great time.   I hope they had a fab honeymoon and enjoy reliving their day through our eyes!

Lindsey Turner - Incredible shots as usual! Did you do any video of the day?! You put together great ones!

Barnaby Aldrick - Hey Lindsey – I’m still focussing on stills for clients who’ve booked me for photography only, but am getting enquiries to see if I could do video only or both (AKA: ‘fusion’). It’s all amazingly viable and exciting, but I’m trying to get my noodle round the key aspects of video (HD video codec formats / frames per sec / Final Cut Pro / compression to DVD blah blah blah) before I really offer it professionally.

But cheers for the confidence boost! I’m really enjoying the cross-over.

Love your showit site with the intro interview! I want one of those for me! x
