I recently joined the lovely Jo & Joe for their fun-filled pre-wedding practice shoot at The Priory in (the impressively hard-to-spell…) Syningthwaite.
They’re getting married at Leeds Cathedral, which is a church I’ve wanted to photograph in for ages. But afterwards, they’re bussing their guests to The Priory for the reception. It’s basically a wicked new wedding/events venue surrounded by pimp holiday cottages. Once run down farm buildings in a farm containing a derelict priory deep the fields of North Yorkshire, it’s now a super stylish events space, decorated to an extremely high spec; ideal for a wedding you can put our own mark on. It’s also a family run business
Check out a great review of it on the Boho Weddings & Events site here.
Opposite the swankily furbished cottages and renovated farm buildings is the ancient Priory, which is also in the process of conversion.
I learnt on this trip that a Priory’s are where nuns practiced and a monastery’s & abbey’s are where monk’s did their thing.
Every day’s a school day, hey?
Anyhoos – after a good nosey around the spaces Jo & Joe are using for their wedding, we all dived into the practice photohshoot.
I loved this bold red-painted wall, round the side of the old farmhouse, for a cheeky cuddle.

A closer detail of excellent footwear and a lovely leafy heart
It’s all about showing a couple how it feels in front of my camera…
…and me talking a load of rubbish till I work out what makes people laugh!
Once you’ve got that, and a couple chill out & relax, you get cracking pics.
But I do also like to catch a bit of passion, and this door was the perfect backdrop for it.
Another wicked backdrop I spotted on the way up the long drive was a sea of poppies.
So it seemed wrong not to climb in!
I don’t know which I prefer of these 3 images.
I think they all look ace! ‘Specially Mr Joe’s face in the last one!
I can’t wait to join these two for their big day. It was great fun hanging out & checking out their fabulous venue.
Bring it on!
