Last weekend I photographed the wedding of James + Dan at the fabulous Cutlers Hall, an opulent Grade II listed venue, steeped in cutlery-shaped history, in the heart of Sheffield in South Yorkshire.

These chaps make a lovely, warm pair, and have happily been together for over 12 years. But after some recent bereavements and a heart scare, they decided to crack on and get that knot officially tied! While they’d originally set their hearts set on getting married in toasty Greece, on the advice of James’ Dad, they decided to keep it close to home so all their friends could join in the celebrations.

So after getting a chilled-out morning getting ready with their parents, ‘groomsmaid’ and flower girls at the nearby Leopold Hotel, they travelled to the wedding in style in ‘Harry’, a 1967 VW split-screen camper van!

The wealthy doings of the Cutlery industry have been going down in Cutler’s Hall since 1638, and with no less than 7 majestic ‘livery halls’, couples can pick and choose where to host the ceremony, meal & evening knees up!

So after their moving ceremony, guests enjoyed canapes, fizz and some amazing close up afternoon reception magic. During this time, the newlyweds and I took another turn around Sheff in Harry, to St Marie’s Cathedral to light some candles for close family members no longer with them. This was a really special moment, and it was an honour to witness this.

Then it was back to the banqueting hall for a delicious meal, and into an even bigger hall for the evening celebrations – complete with photobooth and a brilliant Gary Barlow tribute act called ‘THE Tony Kay’, who had conga lines going and guests up pretending to be the rest of ‘Take That’!

These guys weren’t much for tradition, and didn’t have speeches, cake cuts or a first dance – but instead hosted a fun, relaxed celebration of their union. It’s so special to photograph a gay wedding like this and I hope you enjoy the photos myself and my wingman Tim captured!

So gerra nice mug of Yorkshire Tea on, and enjoy the slideshow of my faves below:
