Wedding Photos at Hornington Manor, in Yorkshire: Fliss + Ali

Last weekend I joined Felicity & Alireza (AKA: Fliss + Ali) for their wonderful sunny wedding photos at Hornington Manor.

As Ali has Persian heritage, they tied the knot with a beautiful blend of Iranian & British traditions. After relaxed morning preparations at Fliss’ family home in York and Ali around Hornington Manor, they headed to All Saints Church in Bolton Percy for a traditional Church of England ceremony (beamed by the wonders of modern technology live to Iran!). After congratulatory hugs and a blast of confetti, they dived into the 1939 Rolls Royce Wraith with a glass of fizz back to Hornington Manor for an Iranian ‘Aghd’ blessing. Packed with symbolism for their new life together and presented by Ali’s father they sat under a canopy with a guest grinding sugar canes atop, and ate and tasted from a table laden with nuts, honey, bread, sugar, seeds and sweets. It was all very lovely to witness.

Afterwards, guests enjoyed canapés, traditional Baclava & Persian sweets, while drinks were served from Hornington’s Haa Haa bar. Before long they headed into the beautifully decorated Barn for speeches (which included both a Bridesmaid’s free-styled rap to Fresh Prince of Bel Air and a brotherly cover of Aladin’s ‘A Whole New World’!) and a delicious lamb dinner. The sun eventually set and the party started! Boy these guys love dancing, and after grooving through the first dance it was hard to stop the party for the traditional Iranaian cutting of the cake – where female guests dance around with the cake knife until Ali bribes them enough to actually cut the cake! It’s so lovely seeing these ancient and fascinating traditions.

And once the band took a break after their first set, we managed to squeeze in a a few final evening portraits as the night skies set in and the Iranian music kicked in and the dancefloor went mental!

What a special day indeed!
