Last Saturday I joined Claire + Mike to shoot their wedding photos at The Priests House near Skipton – a wonderful Grade 1 listed wedding venue nestled in the shadow of the impressive ruins of Barden Tower in the Yorkshire Dales.
It’s the third time I’ve photographed a couple in this lovely family, and it was fab to catch up with everyone again and meet new members of their expanding family. The bride informed me that I’m her “something borrowed”, which amused me!
While my wingman Andy joined the chaps over in Thorner, I caught up with Claire and her bridesmaid for relaxed morning preparations at an ace boutique hotel called ‘The Chapel’ in Harrogate. After their delightful Catholic ceremony at St John Fisher Chapel (which is actually a school Claire + Mike are connected to, and even called on the school children for choral duties from the balcony at the back), we headed into the drizzle of the Yorkshire Dales! Passing Bolton Abbey we turned into the Priests House, a lovingly restored 15th Century wedding venue, steeped in history and charm. Next to Bardon Tower (which apparently once held Mary Queen Of Scots back in the day) there’s a beautiful oak-beamed Old Chapel for the wedding meal, in wonderful valley Wharfdale vistas.
And this was certainly a family-friendly day! Between them Claire + Mike have SIX children! A full creche team from a group called ‘Little rascals’ were hired in to entertain all the kids, with balloons and songs from Frozen (while the adults got stuck into the fizz!) A cunning idea indeed…
And after fun speeches and a lovely roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, the cake was cut, the band fired up and we left the gang to party into the evening!
All in all… another wonderful family wedding!
