Last Saturday I joined Hayley + Carl for their wedding in Yorkshire at the beautiful Skipton Castle and The Tempest Arms in Elslack.
They call the historic market town of Skipton the ‘Gateway the Yorkshire Dales’ – which as we all know is the beautiful face of ‘Gods Own County’! I always feel super-patriotic driving through the rolling green and dry-stone walling – even in the Yorkshire drizzle that mother nature was dealing out on Saturday morning! Fortunately, after a chilled morning with the girls at The Tempest Arms and guys at home in Skipton, she gave us a moment’s respite after the ceremony. We headed down from the Banqueting Hall to gathered for a mingle and team photos in the private Conduit Court under a the shelter of the enormous twisted yew.
And because Covid continues to thwart the usual shenanigans allowed at a wedding, with indoor dancing being outlawed, they instead chose to have a shuffle in the 13th Century, open-air Chapel of St John the Evangelist in the Castle walls to the tune of Ben Folds’ ‘Luckiest’.
As the castle is a marriage ceremony venue only, Hayley + Carl led the gang in their Bentley 10minutes down the road to The Tempest Arms in Elslack for a cosy pub dinner. Moving, funny speeches were delivered by all and sundry (including a solid Girl Power selection from mum, the bride and bridesmaids) and guests settled in for a sunny evening, with a jukebox playing, a round of bingo & fancy dress play your cards right, while smartphones showed England smashing the Ukraine 4:0!
Fun times all round…
Hayley + Carl are a lovely down to earth pair, with huge love for their 1year old daughter and a great gaggle of pals around them.
Sometimes you just wanna be mates with the people you pap, and this was no exception!
