Apologies for the slight radio silence on the blog kids, After shooting an epic 4 day wedding in India, I was thrown straight into organising my brother’s stag, so haven’t had a great deal of time to get the blogs written! The hangover after last weekend’s stag didn’t help much either… But I’m back in the saddle now and thought it might be nice to blog this lovely little family shoot I did earlier this year…
So! It was fab to head back to Greetland a little while back to join one of my all-time favourite wedding couples Martin & Michelle (check out their 2010 Papakata Teepee & campervan wedding on the blog here). I was there not only to catch up an old addition to their family (Harvey the Bulldog!), but their beautiful little new addition too – little Florence Rose!
These guys had a tough time with this little one, as she was born 14 weeks early!
But she’s pulled through with the world of love and support and is a happy little bunny!
I’m not a fan of the studio style family/baby shoots, where everyone rolls around on a white floor, then have to get a mortgage to pay for a canvas print.
I prefer to approach it as a relaxed documentary of a morning-in-the-life, photographing not only the people, but the context and details around that period in the baby’s life.
It’s all about the details! My fave being little children’s wee fingers and toeses!
A sweet little father / daughter moment
Fun to see Michelle’s wedding dress we still hanging on the wardrobe!
A happy little teamshot!
A less happy little teamshot!
😉
You really have to go with the flow on a young baby family shoot. More often than not, babies don’t play along with a photographer’s schedule, so I generally make it an extended morning or afternoon hookup, buffered with loads of cups of tea and catching up with past wedding couples.
It was sad to hear how traumatic it is when a baby is born so premature.
Michelle & Martin have become big supporters of the Bliss charity, for babies born too soon, too small or too sick. It was founded over 20 years ago by parents concerned by the lack of resources in the UK for babies needing special or neonatal intensive care and does great work.
Harvey is an awesome dude – I remember he joined us on the pre-wedding shoot 3 years ago (blog here)!
It’s hilarious how loud he snores.
It was so lovely to hang out with this happy little family and lovely to meet little Florence and hang with Harv!
Party on you guys,
B
