Yesterday I joined Susannah & Will for their wedding at Holdsworth House in Halifax!
It was an autumnal wedding if ever I papped one, with blustery showers, blazing sunshine & orange leaves, but most importantly, lots of fun was had and it was a magical day!
After getting home last night, we put together a slideshow of official teasers for Susannah & Will to enjoy and share before they head off for their exotic Indian adventures.
I hope you enjoy our the story of this special day!
The drive over to Susannah’s preparations in Netherthong near Holmfirth is a beautiful area of the world, on the edge of the peak district
The girls were getting ready in Susannah’s beautiful family home; a brilliantly kooky thin Yorkshire cottage spanning 3 floors and brimming with character.
Susannah & the girls were up in the top floor lounge in colourful Indian garb being pampered and made up!
Loving this unusual Claire Pettobone bridal gown
You can also see Susannah’s creative hand in the brilliant dark autumnal flora throughout the wedding, put together by The Greenhouse in Huddersfield.
Awesome!
Nuff said.
Once upon a time, Susannah & her bridesmaid Leila backpacked around India and you can see how its influence subtly infused the theming.
Finished off beautifully with bold lips!
A cute thing about these guys is that they grew up in villages 5 minutes away from one another, one in Netherthong and t’other in Upperthong!
No doubt they crossed paths many times before love blossomed!
When Clare arrived, our man of the hour, Will, was chilling with his best man
Susannah sent over a wedding card and a gift of her grandfather’s ancient pocket watch, which went brilliantly with Will’s full tweed suit!
Will loves his tweed as much as I do, and travelled all the way to Edinburgh to get this badboy!
The chaps were decked in tweed too!
Win.
Love this little contrasty frame Clare caught of Will fixing his tie.
Once everyone was ready, Clare took the chaps outside for a few quick relaxed portraits
Loving the ties too!
A quick toast before heading t’pub!
I honestly can’t get enough of this suit… 😉
Meanwhile, back with the girls Susannah was being gowned up…
Beautiful.
This is one of my faves of the day
The church, literally next door to where the girls were getting ready, is sadly where Susannah’s father’s buried.
I thought it was really lovely that after the service, the chief bridesmaid popped down to place his button hole on the grave.
Her  mum had also had a hand in dressing the church with Autumnal flora
After a cheeky pint at the pub, the boys joined the guests in the church, where the local colliery brass band were playing guests in.
Team bride, good to go!
Here comes the bride!
The bride & groom are a musical couple, and asked some of their musical pals to play a few songs during the official signing of the registers.
And down the aisle, to the brass band, as man & wife!
While still blustery, the weather held for a quick shot of everyone outside the church…
Which meant we could use the autumn leaves these guys had been saving for the most excellent orange confetti bomb!
Then after a few hugs & kisses they jumped into the wedding car to head over to Holdsworth House…
Will had been left with surprising Susannah with choosing the wedding car and had chosen well! Â Tin cans & all!
I arrived at the brilliant 17th Century Jacobean Holdsworth House just before them, while a quick storm passed!
Fortunately the weather literally stopped as they arrived, and in spite of it being wet underfoot, Susannah was happy to do a few portraits outside.
We’d done a round of fun practice portraits up around a Holmfirth reservoir a few weeks previous (highlights here), so these guys knew what I was after!
It’s a stunning backdrop for a perfect couple!
A few final cuddles before heading inside to join their guests for fizz & canapes…
And just before heading in I snapped this cute little frame looking back at the Morris.
As it had started up again outside, we did the family lineups indoors
But that didn’t stop us having a bit of fun with them!
The wedding breakfast was laid out beautifully with another natural Autumnal leaf theme!
As guests made their way into the room, I stole Susannah & Will away for a quick round of relaxed portraits…
Then they were announced in to whoops and cheers
And we left them in peace as dusk settled over the house, to get on with their delicious wedding breakfast and enjoy the evening celebrations!
What a beautifully done, Autumnal wedding eh? Â I really enjoyed the styling on this one (Tweed FTW!) and we had a blast documenting the story of the union of this lovely couple. Â Here’s hoping they not only have a wonderful life together, but have just as much fun on their honeymoon in India!
