Bonjourno chicos! I shot another Leeds Guide last week and got up to all sorts of fun stuff.
One feature was shot in House of Fraser, where a Bobby Brown makeup artist made LG sales mentalist Lucy’s eyes all smoky.
Looks cool eh? And yeah yeah, I know I spelt smoky wrong on the pic. D’oh.
As I keep repeating, food reviews are my fave part of the whole LG experience, and this issue had loads of em.
First stop, Call’s Landing on the Riverside. A fine looking warehouse building that would make an amazing studio flat.
In the Halloweeny spirit of things they prepared a tasty Pumpkin stew
Later I visited one of my fave cantina bars, Sandinista, who aside from making THE BEST Caipiriniha’s in Leeds, do all sorts of damn tasty tapas.
Chef man let me nosh this Mediterranean Seafood stew with garlic toasts too. Mmmmmmm.
Not long back I’d visited Sandinista to photograph this cheeky cocktail for the Bartender’s Choice feature.
This pokey little number featured Tequila, Cacao & cardamon pods, hence their placement in the pic!
In another recent Bartenders Choice feature I was bizzarely sent to Bargain Booze (a mini supermarket).
With no bartender or cocktail to speak of I was to make nice a bottle of this odd green Bolivian Agwa de Bolivia liqueur. It’s apparently made of coca leaf, whose derivative is used to make cocaine, and is drunk as tea in Bolivia & Peru. Though I didn’t come across much ‘Water of Bolivia’ on my travels there. It was all about the egg white ‘Pisco Sour‘, which is the only drink I’ve drunk that makes your legs paralytic while leaving the rest of you really happy.
Anyhoos – I gathered a few limes and a novelty shot glass & popped it on the shop counter with a bit of off camera flash.

I prefer bartenders choices to look more like this one, shot a while back at the ace cocktail bar Boutique, Leeds.

While digging about for the above pix I found this cool shot from a riverside city flat. Leeds rules.
In another Halloween feature I had to photograph this old chap who does haunted walks.
I met him at his house and we snapped him in his coal cellar looking all haunty.
One flash on the floor in front of him, pointing up, one behind him clipped to that spade handle lighting the back wall.
This restaurant, Dos Amigos, were completely unaware I was coming and had a grumpy chef who refused to cook up.
I’d already had two meals, so can’t complain really, and the interior looked cool anyhoos.
This lady delivers organic veggie boxes. She had no boxes to photograph and no uniform or branding for me to snap, so I sat her on her van.
For me Leeds Guide pix are often good practice for getting the most out very little. I really enjoy it, but sometimes wonder why people don’t try take advantage of free marketing.
This girl worked in D-Store in The Light and was roped into doing the My Favourite Outfit feature by her boss.
She was really nervous about it, but look how cool and confident she looks!
I’m really pleased with the lighting in this shot, and the backlit sunshine was simply bounced with a silver reflector by my buddy Cris Matthews.
This was another picture I supplied to the Leeds Guide a while back for a feature on local music. I caught it at my Sunday Service night, featuring the excellent David Broad and my fave lamp in the whole world. I bought that shade at Poverty Aid, a repossessions and house clearance place, and it probably lived in some granny’s house for years and years. There are many suspicious stains and it lives in my lounge when it ain’t Sunday Service.
I love lamp.
