T’other day I headed up into North Yorkshire to join these kids, Liz & Glynn, for their pre-wed at Bolton Abbey, ahead of their big day at Crow Hill in Marsden!
I always like driving through the rolling hills and piocturesque towns of the Yorkshire Dales, and it was a beautiful day for a stroll.
Bolton Abbey was looking good from the tea rooms, where we all caught up and talked excitedly about big day plans!
Afterwards, we donned the Hunters and took a stroll down to the Wharf with Bella – their lovely pooch – and Barny – their parents (most excellently-named!) dog, who’s recently been holidaying with them.
I do like a dog on a portrait shoot.
Though I spend so much time trying to get an ace snap of the dog I sometimes forget about the couple!
The reason I do these ‘pre-wedding/engagement’ shoots is for practice, to help my couples loosen up and relax into the idea of having their portraits taken.
They’re a great way to show a couple that it’s more about a bit of physical connection and having a laugh than forced posing and fake smiles.
It turned out it was Liz’s 30th birthday on the day we met! Â They’d decided to make a day of it up in the dales wit’dogs.
I was honoured to be considered a fun part of the celebrations!
It didn’t take these guys long to loosen into it. Â Not with Bella there for moral support!
♥
Barny, an older fellow, was either dead horny or ambivalent to what was going on.
This little dog behaved similarly too.

Back up in the Abbey we caught a few more relaxed cuddles. Â I really like the romance of the one on the right.
…and a few individual portraits
And then it was off for more birthday celebrations!
Yey!
[Stay tuned for more pics of Liz & Glynn, as I’ll be posting their highlights blog the day after their wedding]
