Last Saturday I joined Niku + Mark for their relaxed, sunny fusion wedding at The Sun Pavilion in the Harrogate Valley Gardens!
In spite of having papped loads of central Harrogate’s grand Victorian wedding venues, I actually didn’t even know the Sun Pavilion existed before this! But after this wonderfully relaxed wedding, with the civil ceremony on the terrace under flowering wisteria and a delicious meal and knees up under the stunning stained-glass dome, I kinda fell in love with the place!
The whole day was brilliantly chilled too; from relaxed hair, makeup & Sari donning with her bridesmaid and close family, to strolling to the park for ‘first look’ style pre-ceremony portraits with Mark – the day wasn’t bound by stuffy tradition! We even rounded up the family before the service to get the group photos done, leaving the entire reception for mingling with their near and dear! Perfect!
After being sung down the aisle to a traditional Bengali love song, the ceremony was commandeered by the bride’s sister who had laughing guests in the palm of her hand, with tales of their childhood. Before the exchange of rings, a close relative gave them handmade floral garlands to drape over one another before the exchange of rings and after a quick kiss, they took their first steps as man & wife through a cloud of colourful confetti!
You could tell these cats had a theatrical background with a host of hilarious speeches – from both parent groups, bridesmaid and best man AND the bride and groom! Then as the sun started to set, a soulful singer and guitarist came to swoon the crowd into dancing, subtly distracting the crowd from the fact that the newlyweds didn’t fancy a first dance!
I love it when a couple don’t bother with the traditions that don’t suit them, and just make the day their own! Plus you couldn’t have asked for a better location, nestled in the heart of Harrogate within the lush and picturesque Valley Gardens for a stunning wedding!
