Today was an interesting one; my first pre-wed photographing a pro photographer!  Here we have my good friend Tom Arber & his excellent fiancée Becky Day.

After getting ourselfs all giddy about the details of their big day we ventured out for some practice pics before their big day near the end of July.  Still being English ‘Summertime’, our ‘friend’ Mother Nature gate-crashed the party. The irony was that we postponed last weeks pre-wed to hold out for better weather. That cheeky wench Mother Nature, even decided to pop back on her sunhat as soon as we’d wrapped up the shoot and got in our cars to head homeward bound.  I don’t know…  It seems I’m forever ranting about making the best of the rain this summer!

Anyhoos – we made the best of what we got, and with a bit of magical trickery in the Lightroom, I brought out the digital sun and made light of a bad weather.

Though you’ll see it wasn’t hard making these chicos look cool. They struct that perfect balance of unbridled romance & messing about.

It turned out to be an enlightening shoot for all.  I felt the pressure to deliver the goods, cos this man knows the game and is getting the RAWs to play with himself. Tom’d never experienced the other side of a pre-wed himself, and took a while to calm himself & find his groove on the wrong side of the camera.  Becky, inspite of regularly being on the receiveing end of Tom’s glass, wasn’t hugely comfy in front of the camera. But we soon all found our place in’t equation and ended up relaxing into it.  Like so…

A relaxed moment.

A less relaxed moment!  Work that ice cream kids.  Even stuck my Ribena lolly in for a spot in the limelight.

Composition from the hip. Generally poo, sometimes kinda cool.

We were at what Becky called ‘Ossetts only site of any natural beauty’, a reservoir and damn with a walkway across the centre.

Which looked cool from across the lake.  Apparently when the water level rises a bit, you can look like you’re walking on water.

Tom’s told me that to return the flavour and to show me how weird it to be photographed he’s gonna take myself & my lady Clare on a shoot.  I think as a tog doing this regularly, you think it’d be easy to mess about and cuddle up infront of a camera, but I bet it is well odd.

I love their expressions in the next one.  Becky’s eyes really are that blue.

It’s gonna be interesting to see what Tom does with the images, both these and from the wedding.  He’s processing his wedding himself, and we’re doing what we call a ‘Shoot&Burn’ in the trade. He’s a proper skill photographer and I’ve seen him come along in leaps and bounds, with an unquenchable thirst for photographic knowhow. He’s poured nearly every penny he’s earned into the best gear out there and has sharpened his photoshop prowess no end.  Check his pictures on his blog here. I’ll try and post some of his images on here for comparison once he’s had a play.

I think Tom & Becky are absolutely ace and can’t wait to join em on their big day.
