Happy Star Wars Day folks! ‘May the Fourth’ be with you!
Those of you who know me, know I dress my long suffering rescue pooch Kyra up as Star Wars characters every year. Â When I got her, I was told her birthday was in early May, so decided that day might as well be May 4th & dressed her as Darth Vader to celebrate!
This year, she’s turned 12 eek, so I decided to keep it a bit simpler and we bring you…
Kyra-2D2!
It’s a better costume for a white coloured dog, which is why I’ve not done it till now. Plus, this official Lucasfilm licensed outfit a) looks like a victorian frilly blouse and b) comes with a scullcap she WAS NOT 100% IMPRESSED WITH!
But as ever, she put up with my silly ways in exchange for sliced ham and biscuits!
My son Len helped with treat distribution and I only realised afterwards that I’d massively missed a trick not dressing him up as C3PO to complete the pairing!
If you’d like to peruse her past run of torturous outfits, previous instalments have been as follows:
Last year she was an X Wing Pilot! And as I strain at puns on her name ‘Kyra’, she joins Gold Leader, Blue Leader and Red Leader, as ‘Kyred Leader’!
This was an official outfit too, this one! But with added snowboarding goggles I found in my drawer.
While she’s technically a Bantha, the rider is a Tuskan Raider and that makes an easier ‘Kyra/dog’ pun!
‘Kyrace Windu’! Samuel Jackson’s badass Jedi with the purple lightsabre.
A few years ago we had a bash a “Kyrey”!
And she looks just as pleased about being dressed up in a toddlers fancy dress costume and hanging out in a local golf course bunker as you’d expect!
The year before in our local bluebell woods, I hacked up a Chewbacca Rucksack to make ‘Chewbarka’!
The year previous she brought things up to date as The Force Awaken’s ‘Kyra Ren’, Han & Leia’s naughty son.
The year before found her encased in a home made carbonite box as ‘Kyran Solo’
Another year she was ‘Princess Kyra’! Mainly ’cause she’s a little short to be a Storm Trooper.
One year she played an Ewok (aka ‘Kyrawok’) made out of an old charity shop skirt & a large teddy bear!
Jub jub
…The Ewok headgear also doubled up as a Jedi Knight’s robe, AKA Kyrobi Wan Kenobi…
These aren’t the treats I’m looking for.
… and the first – and arguably the best – outfit: Darth Kyra! Â At last, the circle is complete.
And here are a few out-takes, cause eventually, even food bribes don’t make up for the humiliation…
She wasn’t entirely convinced as an Ewok either!  But she sees plenty of treats for her shame.
I can’t see what her problem is really; I personally love a spot of dressing up… And it’s a great document of her face graying over the years!
Happy Star Wars day everybody!
Hope you’ve all enjoying your new normals! I’m super happy shooting weddings again after these trying times!
