Last Saturday I joined Katherine & Jason for their wedding photography at The Pheasant Hotel in Harome near Helmsley in North Yorkshire!
Now we know 2020 has been a crazy year for all things, and in my world weddings especially! Considering I usually shoot around 30 a year, this was the first (and possibly only) wedding I’ll be photographing this year. To top it off, I caught coronavirus a week before my last wedding and had to hand it over to a colleague! So it was an understatement to say I was excited to get back in the saddle again after so long!
To add to this drama, Katherine & Jason not only had to deal with pairing down their special day to the Government Guidelines of max 15 guests, but the week before the wedding Jason showed symptoms and had to go for a coronavirus test! So even the week before the wedding it was hard to know if it was going ahead… Crazy times!
But after a negative test, go ahead it did and wow, what a day! Things kicked off brilliantly when I joined the gents at Yorkshire Outdoors for clay shooting and off-roading in the amazing machine that is the Land Rover Defender (which the groom’s son Dom very nearly rolled!). Then I headed over Sutton Bank to The Pheasant – a stunning Yorkshire gastropub, already perfect for an intimate wedding. The owner Jacqui enabled everyone to enjoy all the usual high-end wedding loveliness, in spite of lockdown precautions. Personalised, colour-schemed facemasks were on hand for the civil ceremony, and it was so lovely to find that the North Yorkshire registrars were still friendly and relaxed in-spite of their new rules. After some quick, fun groupshots and relaxed portraits, reception canapés were enjoyed to guitar-based serenading from the brilliant Rachel Croft. Then after emotional speeches and a magician, we ended the night on a code compliant first dance to a bit of romantic Van Morrison, followed by a few final flash portraits outside in the light evening drizzle.
Katherine & Jason are a gorgeous pair, having found love and passion in one another. They threw a superb family-friendly bash for their children, family & pals and the day went off without a hitch!
You couldn’t really ask for more from a wedding in Yorkshire, and it’s always a pleasure shooting at The Pheasant Hotel! So I hope you enjoy the video of their highlights below…
