Yesterday I joined to lovely Deborah & Dan for their wedding photography at at St John’s Church, Knaresborough & Wood Hall, Linton, in Yorkshire.
Yesterday was one of those forecasts we wedding photographers join our brides in furrowing our brows at! The 2-drops-and-grey-cloud-all-day badboy.
It’s always gonna happen in the fair isles of England, so I’d steeled my mind for indoor contingency options…
…but it was nice to pass down the long dramatic drive of Wood Hall while the rain held off.
Deborah & team bride were upstairs, so I wandered up to join them
Lots of fun was being had giving & receiving gifts, drinking fizz and applying the war paint.
A wonderfully apt card from hubby-to-be, over in Knaresborough!
Then I got down to taking a few pics of the beautiful details Debs had chosen, including this ace dress from Harrogate Wedding Lounge
Amazing dusky bouquets & flora by Arcadian Flowers in Harrogate
Meanwhile, my wingman Hamish headed over to Knaresborough to join the dudes for their preps…
I love this view of the stunning valley at the edge of this pretty market town
Bacon & Tea sets a sold start to any day
Jager is a strong choice too. Even at five to ten. Rock stars swear by it.
Loving Hamish’s ring shot in the confetti cones!
Then in the fine rain, the chaps took a stroll across town towards the church, swingin’ by the old ruins of Knaresborough castle
Serious pose
Less serious pose
Meanwhile, the wedding Chrysler arrived at Wood Hall…
…and the gown was being being laced up!
This might be one of my faves of the day, just after the veil was applied.
Team bride complete and ready to party!
Here comes the bride!
Deborah’s father had sadly passed away a few years ago, and was clearly missed during the day.
Her brother Mike walked her down the aisle to give her away. These moments are always a special and emotional honour to document.
As we came out of the church the silly weather turned back on again, but it was fortunately a passing shower, so we managed to get out for a quick everyone shot…
And the all important CONFETTI BOMB!
Debs & Dan had spotted a terrace on the other side of the church hall that we were able to use (though we had to bustle through a sewing class!), so we took advantage of the clear spell and had a bit of quiet time for a few portraits
We pulled in and caused an impressive traffic jam on the path down to Wood Hall…
But it was worth is for these lovely pics. Â I do like a couple who are game for pics even when it’s wet underfoot.
Like this little relaxed sequence
Mother nature even kindly carved us a window for family & wedding party groups on the steps outside!
Ta ma.
I always enjoy a wedding party who are up for a bit of messing about!
A little detail of the ace colour scheming and flora
Confetti mkII with pals and bubbles!
AKA: Bubblefetti!
The wedding breakfast was beautifully decorated with many hand done touches, strips of ribbon and table names & place settings hand burnt into wood!
Apt for Wood Hall!
As we weren’t staying on to capture the evening fun, we mocked up a little cut of the beautiful Betty’s wedding cake after checking out the completed room.
Speeches understandably had a poignant moment when the Father of the Bride was discussed.
Summed up nicely by this hand held B+W moment captured by Hamish.
The mood was lightened somewhat by Dan’s actorly best men!
This is my MOST FAVOURITE kind of photo to capture during the speeches.
Means the best men are doing a good job.
We were only booked to stay until the speeches, and looking out of the window after speeches, the weather was playing crazy games again!
Full blaze!
So I grabbed Debs and Dan for a final 5 minutes of pics to wrap up their story!
Beautiful eh? It was so lovely to see a couple still so visibly in love after 10 years together.
Lovely day eh?!
Fun & games with the May weather, but we got what we needed and more, and it was a total pleasure to hang out with this fun couple and their slightly crazy pals.
Here’s hoping the weather is more reliable in Mexico on the honeymoon kids! And here’s to a very happy life together indeed!
