Last weekend we joined Steph + Tristan for their Yorkshire wedding photos in Upper Denby in Yorkshire, at St John The Evangelist Church and a marquee in a field overlooking Denby Dale!
While it was yet another of Mother Nature’s 2019 ‘summer’ washouts, the endless rain thankfully didn’t spoil the fun!
I joined the girls for relaxed morning preparations at Steph’s family home in Roundhay (narrowly avoiding drama caused by Ed Sheeran’s Roundhay Park gig!), while my wingman Andy joined Tristan and his chaps for their gentlemanly proceedings in Kirkburton. As their married name was to be Parker, it was amusing to see Steph + Tristan both send each other the same beautiful Parker Pen as a wedding gift, along with touching letters written in those pens!
After that the chaps piled in Tristan’s dad’s adorable red Citroen 2CV, and headed over to the pub for a pie, round the corner from their church in Upper Denby. And once our blushing bride made it under umbrellas to the church, they had a lovely service, featuring a gorgeous poignant poem written by Steph to her new husband. We managed to quickly dive through a shower of confetti before heading to the marquee down the road and then enjoyed delicious canapes, fizz and ale from Tristan’s home town before tucking into a delicious Beef Wellington dinner.
These guys haven’t had the easiest ride with health issues – and apparently Steph’s had to re-learn how to walk twice – so speeches were beautifully heartfelt and touching. It’s always an honour to be party to these stories and to hear how a couple have grown close together through adversity.
Then after the meal, for a brief moment the rain abated and a glorious double rainbow shined down into the valley view, and we tried a few more pics outside (which switched rain for a gale!). Good ol’Yorkshire weather!
Soon after the band had set up and after cutting the pork pie cake, it was time to let down the hair and party! And later on after we’d long gone, they even continued into the night with a silent disco!
