Last Friday I joined Anna + Will for their wedding photos at Thwaite Watermill in Leeds, in Yorkshire!
Drizzle didn’t dampen the spirits at this intimate ‘micro-wedding’. Each of the 5 guests played a role, speaking, baking or doing the flowers – and it was just lovely to spend a chilled afternoon with everyone.
Anna + Will only recently decided to get married, as Anna’s father was sadly suffering with Motor Neurone Disease. They’d hoped he’d be there, but sadly he passed only a few weeks before the big day. Though he was very much in everyone’s minds, he’d written a speech for his son to deliver. It’s special moments like these that remind me what an honour it is to do this for a living. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house and it was very moving indeed to hear his special words to his daughter.
Afterwards, between group pics, cake & prosecco and informal speeches, we nipped out for a quick round of portraits in and around the fascinating ancient buildings.
Thwaite Watermill was a really interesting wedding venue to shoot at too! Set on its own island, it’s one of the best remaining examples of a water-powered mill in Britain. Built in 1823-25, it harnessed the power of the River Aire to crush stone and make putty. I’ve been doing Yorkshire Wedding Photography for over 15 years and it’s always lovely to shoot weddings at interesting new venues like this.

And after we’d all enjoyed delicious cake and the touching speeches, I left them to head into Leeds for some delicious Spanish tapas!
It really was lovely joining these guys to tell the story of their very special day.
